    My Best Friend’s Wedding (Dress)

Maren and I met on the first day of Kindergarten when she came up to me and said she liked my dress and asked me to play. We have been in each other’s lives ever since. She is the kindest and most giving person that I know and I am blessed to have her in my life. Just one small example is when I went into labor 3 weeks early with my youngest she came to the hospital and got my house keys. Then proceeded to go clean my house and set up the nursery which I hadn’t had the time to do yet. We had only moved in two…

A Few of My Favorite Things

When I started my sewing journey almost 3 years ago I had no idea what a big part of my life it would become. Sewing has given me confidence in my day to day life in a way I never expected. I’m finally comfortable in my own skin, I spent so many years hating the clothes I wore because they didn’t fit me right or weren’t the right style. Now I can make exactly what I want and it fits me! But the best part of sewing is the community I have gained. Some of my closest friends now are people I would never have met were it not for…

    Dauphine Jeans

If you had told me a year ago that I would be making my own jeans and that they would fit me better than store bought I wouldn’t have believed you. Yet here I am a year and a half into my sewing adventures and that’s exactly what I have done! To say I am happy about it is an understatement. Jeans have always been a struggle for me, prior to kids the issue was length. I could never find any long enough. After kids I added the problem of larger hips and smaller everything else. At the beginning of the year I set a goal for myself to make…

    Journey Dress Hack

Spring has officially sprung and I’m heading to Scottsdale this week for spring break with the family. I wanted to make a cute dress that I could use as a swim cover as well for by the pool. My goal was something loose fitting with some sort of fun detail. I have been admiring the Journey Romper pattern from Striped Swallow Designs for a while as I love the open back option with the wrap. This was just the sort of fun detail I was looking for so I decided to mash the Journey into a dress. There are so many fun views in the Journey Romper pattern I couldn’t…

    Winter Wonderland

It seems like the older I get the faster time goes by, which feels even more true today as this is my first post of 2018! I hope that you had a wonderful holiday season with those closest to you. We were blessed to have family visit us from Florida and Connecticut. While they were visiting we went up to Keystone. Of course my oldest decided that was a perfect time to end up with an ear infection and so we spent most of the time cuddled up on the couch. The last day of our trip my little man was finally feeling better and so we decided to go…

    Velvet Miss Ruby Tuesday

Well it is official, I have done something I swore I would never do… I put up the Christmas tree before December 1st! My oldest started begging me last week and we made a deal where he helped me clean the house and then we put the tree up. Secretly I was excited to put it up as I love the holidays. It got me looking forward to the holidays and I decided that I needed to make the perfect holiday dress. I had this gorgeous velvet from Surge Fabric Shop just begging to be turned into something special. This velvet is so soft and using my tips from my…

    Juliette

I’m thrilled to be part of the Fall Collection Blog Tour for Laela Jeyne Patterns. Their fall collection theme is family photos and they have something for everyone! The entire collection is on sale through the 21st of October so make sure you grab it before the sale ends! I tested the Juliette Dress and fell madly in love with it. I can’t stop making them and even plan to incorporate the bodice into my Halloween costume. I’m always looking for ways to learn new techniques and skills so when I saw that the Juliette was a woven pattern with boning and an invisible zipper I knew I had to do…

    Fall Mini Capsule

This week has been cold here in Denver which was perfect timing for the Fall Mini Capsule contest from Made for Mermaids, Patterns for Pirates and Cole’s Creations. If you haven’t heard about the contest the idea is to sew up nine pieces for your fall wardrobe. The rules are pretty relaxed and it is a fun way to push yourself to get ready for fall! I pushed myself to complete this mini capsule on time because in the spring I didn’t get done in time due to illness. For my capsule I wanted to create a palette that could be mixed and matched any which way. I started by…

    The Babe Hoodie

When I started sewing about a year ago I challenged myself to try new techniques and learn new skills. There were a couple things that I was too scared to try though. Zippers and welt pockets, they totally freaked me out! So when I was selected to test the new Babe hoodie/jacket pattern by the DIBY club I figured now was the perfect time to get over my fears. The pattern instructions are very clear and made it easy to tackle both of these with ease. I am a little obsessed with welt pockets now and will probably be adding them to just about everything now! My biggest tip if…
