    Journey Dress Hack

Spring has officially sprung and I’m heading to Scottsdale this week for spring break with the family. I wanted to make a cute dress that I could use as a swim cover as well for by the pool. My goal was something loose fitting with some sort of fun detail. I have been admiring the Journey Romper pattern from Striped Swallow Designs for a while as I love the open back option with the wrap. This was just the sort of fun detail I was looking for so I decided to mash the Journey into a dress. There are so many fun views in the Journey Romper pattern I couldn’t…

    Velvet Miss Ruby Tuesday

Well it is official, I have done something I swore I would never do… I put up the Christmas tree before December 1st! My oldest started begging me last week and we made a deal where he helped me clean the house and then we put the tree up. Secretly I was excited to put it up as I love the holidays. It got me looking forward to the holidays and I decided that I needed to make the perfect holiday dress. I had this gorgeous velvet from Surge Fabric Shop just begging to be turned into something special. This velvet is so soft and using my tips from my…

    Summer Tank Dress

Hello there! Sorry I have been a little MIA lately. The combination of summer with two small kiddos and other projects has put the blog on my back burner for a bit. But I am back with a quick mash tutorial this week! I got this gorgeous double brushed poly from SewVagabond a while back and wanted to make a dress with it. I decided to combine the Essential Tank and the Cross My Heart Cami. *links are affiliate links* Combining the Patterns Start by tracing the Essential Tank pattern onto a piece of wax paper or tracing paper. Then overlay your traced Essential Tank onto the Cross My Heart…

    Boheme Drift

Today is the last day of Mashup March for Striped Swallow Designs. I have enjoyed seeing everyone’s creative and gorgeous creations. For my #ssdmashupmarch creation I knew I wanted to try something with the Boheme Sky as I have loved the pattern for a while but hadn’t bought it yet. I decided to experiment with mashing it with the Driftwood Hoodie. My goal was to keep the fitted bodice of the Boheme Sky and then attach the Driftwood hood with the front cowl. I’ve been slowly working my way through my fabric stash, due to a ban imposed by a husband who doesn’t understand there is really no such thing as too…

    Athena

We spent last week in Florida with my husband’s family as his step sister was getting married. The wedding was gorgeous and we got to take the kiddos to the beach and a couple of the theme parks. We had a blast and I was sad to leave, but I am happy to be back home so I can sew again! While we were in Florida I had the idea for this dress and spent the whole trip obsessing over how to make it happen. This mashup is the easiest I have shared so far and is a combination of two Made for Mermaids patterns, the Mama Joy and Megan Romper. Then…

    Bombshell Dress

Have you ever had an idea you just couldn’t get out of your head? Back in architecture school that meant many late nights at the studio slaving away on my latest design. Lately it means slaving away in my sewing room. I love that I am starting to get comfortable enough in my sewing that I can branch out from the original patterns and start adding my own ideas. In the case of the bombshell dress I combined two patterns from Patterns for Pirates and then altered the back and neckline. If you are like me the thought of combining and altering a pattern probably freaks you out. I promise…
