Harper Cardigan Hack
Recently Kayla from Surge Fabric Shop and I went to Los Angeles to do a little fabric shopping for the shop and we found some amazing stuff! This week one of my favorites was released, the Impressionist Double-Sided Sweater Knit! It's truly a unique and fun fabric perfect for just about any sweater or cardigan. I used the Eucalyptus color for my version and used about two yards of fabric to make a size small tall. I would recommend ordering an extra yard if you intend to make a larger size I was pretty close to running out of fabric! I selfishly claimed the Eucalyptus color for sewing strikes because…

My Best Friend’s Wedding (Dress)
Maren and I met on the first day of Kindergarten when she came up to me and said she liked my dress and asked me to play. We have been in each other’s lives ever since. She is the kindest and most giving person that I know and I am blessed to have her in my life. Just one small example is when I went into labor 3 weeks early with my youngest she came to the hospital and got my house keys. Then proceeded to go clean my house and set up the nursery which I hadn’t had the time to do yet. We had only moved in two…

A Few of My Favorite Things
When I started my sewing journey almost 3 years ago I had no idea what a big part of my life it would become. Sewing has given me confidence in my day to day life in a way I never expected. I’m finally comfortable in my own skin, I spent so many years hating the clothes I wore because they didn’t fit me right or weren’t the right style. Now I can make exactly what I want and it fits me! But the best part of sewing is the community I have gained. Some of my closest friends now are people I would never have met were it not for…

Designing and Sewing Custom Fabric
My first introduction to sewing was when I somehow stumbled upon KNITorious Fabric who happened to have the most perfect fabric for my husband. I got the idea in my head to make him and my kids matching shirts with it for Father’s Day. Thus began my obsession with sewing and fabric. I’ve always been fascinated by the idea of custom fabric and wanted to design my own. So when Kayla of Surge Fabrics asked if I would be interested in designing some new custom prints for the shop I jumped on the opportunity. While thinking about my inspiration for this first round I kept coming back to the idea…

Dauphine Jeans
If you had told me a year ago that I would be making my own jeans and that they would fit me better than store bought I wouldn’t have believed you. Yet here I am a year and a half into my sewing adventures and that’s exactly what I have done! To say I am happy about it is an understatement. Jeans have always been a struggle for me, prior to kids the issue was length. I could never find any long enough. After kids I added the problem of larger hips and smaller everything else. At the beginning of the year I set a goal for myself to make…

Journey Dress Hack
Spring has officially sprung and I’m heading to Scottsdale this week for spring break with the family. I wanted to make a cute dress that I could use as a swim cover as well for by the pool. My goal was something loose fitting with some sort of fun detail. I have been admiring the Journey Romper pattern from Striped Swallow Designs for a while as I love the open back option with the wrap. This was just the sort of fun detail I was looking for so I decided to mash the Journey into a dress. There are so many fun views in the Journey Romper pattern I couldn’t…

Winter Wonderland
It seems like the older I get the faster time goes by, which feels even more true today as this is my first post of 2018! I hope that you had a wonderful holiday season with those closest to you. We were blessed to have family visit us from Florida and Connecticut. While they were visiting we went up to Keystone. Of course my oldest decided that was a perfect time to end up with an ear infection and so we spent most of the time cuddled up on the couch. The last day of our trip my little man was finally feeling better and so we decided to go…

Velvet Miss Ruby Tuesday
Well it is official, I have done something I swore I would never do… I put up the Christmas tree before December 1st! My oldest started begging me last week and we made a deal where he helped me clean the house and then we put the tree up. Secretly I was excited to put it up as I love the holidays. It got me looking forward to the holidays and I decided that I needed to make the perfect holiday dress. I had this gorgeous velvet from Surge Fabric Shop just begging to be turned into something special. This velvet is so soft and using my tips from my…

Lace Lulu Dolman
If there is one thing in life I love it is dolman style sweaters, if there is a second thing in life I love it is lace! So of course the best would be to combine them both which is exactly what I did for this super easy lace color block hack of the brand new Lulu Dolman from Petite Stitchery. Petite Stitchery is having an awesome sale for Black Friday! See the details below. I used an olive rayon spandex french terry and silver eyelash lace for my top, both of which are available at Surge Fabric Shop. (If you register for a rewards account with my link you…
